Earlier this week I was asked if it was possible to do the old Lutheran hymn, "Ein Feste Burg" (A Mighty Fortress Is Our God) in a rock 'n roll style. I promptly sat down and recorded several tracks of guitars, bass and drums. Yes, I'll admit, I had a bit of fun with it. Honestly, I'm anxious to take any chance I can to work with Logic and improve my recording skills. Anyway, check it out on the Media tab and let me know what you think.

I like it, though it sounds a little....choppy? as though you moved away from the mic or caused the amp to clip around 1:29 or so.

That is just the guitar effect. I was bending the note and vibrating and it started cutting in and out. There's no mic in the mix--the guitar was plugged directly into the DAC. Anyway, I considered editing it out, but I liked the rough-and-ready ending.

I like the re-mix! I like the rough and ready too, as it invites others to try and improvise themselves without worrying about the details.

Hmm... I still can't find anywhere that Mellencamp is quoted as saying that his new recording style is better. He has some dumb things to say about the internet, and his remarks about the difference between a CD and an MP3 sound just like every luddite proclaiming that LPs or tube stereos or wax discs sound better than the new thing.
