My mother is a minister at a church here in town and she asked me if I would be interested in writing and recording some music for a church retreat she was planning. Naturally, I said yes; I'm interested in almost any excuse to write some music. Besides this stuff is right up my alley, having been doing it for years at St. Mark's. So when I met with her briefly to discuss the project, she handed me a single sheet of paper that was full of Bible verses from the book of Revelation. These verses are the inspiration for the following pieces of music. (Posted 4-27-11)

Revelation 5And then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea. They sang:
"Blessing and honor and glory and power belong to the one sitting on the throne and to the Lamb forever and ever." (Rev 5:13)
|
Revelation 7After this I saw a vast crowd, too great to count, from every nation and tribe and people and language, standing in front of the throne and before the Lamb. They were clothed in white robes and held palm branches in their hands. And they were shouting with a great roar,
"Salvation comes from our God who sits on the throne and from the Lamb!" And all the angels were standing around the throne and around the elders and the four living beings. And they fell before the throne with their faces to the ground and worshiped God. They sang, "Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and strength belong to our God forever and ever! Amen." (Rev. 7:9-12)

Revelation 14And I heard a sound from heaven like the roar of mighty ocean waves or the rolling of loud thunder. It was like the sound of many harpists playing together.
(Rev. 14:2) |
Revelation 19After this, I heard what sounded like a vast crowd in heaven shouting,
"Praise the Lord! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God. His judgments are true and just. He has punished the great prostitute who corrupted the earth with her immorality. He has avenged the murder of his servants." (Rev. 19:1-2) "Praise our God, all his servants, all who fear him, from the least to the greatest." (Rev. 19:5) "Praise the Lord! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns. Let us be glad and rejoice, and let us give honor to him. For the time has come for the wedding feast of the Lamb." (Rev. 19:6-7)
